Waste handling

There are many options for waste discharge from dust collector hoppers, depending upon the quantity and whether the waste is to be discarded or sold and re-used in another form. Dantherm manufacture the products listed below, but work closely with companies regarding other waste management options.

Rotary valve
Rotary valves, (or rotary airlocks) are commonly used to discharge dust or waste from dust collector hoppers or to transfer material from screw conveyors to other handling equipment. They are available in large capacity versions with fabricated bodies, for example, for wood waste, or in smaller versions with cast bodies for more arduous applications. ATEX certified versions are available for use with explosive dusts.

Flap (or dump) valves
Single and double flap valves are simple devices suitable particularly for discharging heavy abrasive materials, for example, foundry waste. They are not suitable for very lightweight dusts. Gravity and motorised versions are available.

Screw conveyor
Larger dust collectors may be fitted with a trough hopper with a screw conveyor to discharge material from one or both ends. External screw conveyors may also be used to transportmaterial short distances away from the filter unit, typically up to a maximum of 8 metres.

Chain conveyor
A stand-alone chain conveyor for wood waste is now available. It may be used to convey horizontally or, by fitting special bends they may convey material at up to 60 degrees upwards or downwards.
